Painting classes and skies that aren’t blue

“Skies aren’t yellow!” Everyone held their breath. Then, of course, the instructor immediately realized his misstatement.

During a painting workshop critique in Costa Rica, one of the students had painted yellow in his sky. But skies are sometimes yellow or have lots of orange and red in them in the late afternoon. Sometimes they are greenish or yellowish or hazy grey-blue or just plain grey.

If you live in California, this year they were bright red and bright orange in some places. They were beautiful pictures of the effects of frightening and devastating wildfires.

This month we will be learning to paint skies as we focus on landscape painting in class. We will also explore how to paint trees and water, and how to create a sense of depth in your paintings.

If you are interested in learning to paint landscapes and various elements of the landscape in oils, please join us.

The class begins on Wednesday, October 7th at 9:30. Classes are delivered live on Zoom. They are 3 hours and cost $30 per class plus tax, payable in advance. Each class has a lesson and/or demo, a question and answer period, and time for feedback on your work.  If you’d like to join us please email me at – jean @ jeanwilkey.com
