You may have noticed that there are a lot of online painting classes all of a sudden. That’s good for everyone, right? Many of these classes are “canned” courses where you work on your own. Just you and the computer.
Do you miss the interactivity of live, face-to-face classes?
Do you wish the instructor was there so you could ask questions right away?
My painting classes are real-time, live classes delivered online. That means I’m there teaching live where you can ask me questions and show me your progress for feedback.
These are ongoing classes in painting realism with oil paint. So if you have drawn or painted before but want a formal structure in which to develop greater skill and knowledge these are for you. If you are a complete beginner, I periodically offer a Bootcamp workshop for you to learn the basics, or you can take a private class.
You’ll learn the essentials for creating good paintings.
Each class begins with a lesson on painting, where we focus on the elements, principles, materials, or techniques. These are essentials that can be applied to your particular interests whether portraiture, landscape, still-life, etc. We follow a sequence so that the learning builds from one month to the next.
Depending on what we’re studying, you might do an exercise or just incorporate the day’s lesson into what you are currently painting. You can focus on subjects you like and we also have subject-specific classes such as portraits and landscape.
There is always an opportunity for questions on any aspect of painting and I provide interactive feedback, help, and encouragement.
Classes are on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Enrollment is by the month and costs $130 a month (including tax) for 4 sessions.

Particulars:
- Classes are taught using Zoom. *You’ll need an internet connection, preferably high speed, a computer, tablet or smartphone that is microphone and video enabled. You’ll also need to download the Zoom app which is free.
- On registering, you’ll receive a materials list and instructions on joining the class
- Class limited to 12 participants.

You will want to take this class if:
- You just love paint and crave learning more than just a few basics the beginner courses offer.
- You’ve done some drawing or painting but want the regularity of a group to help you be consistent.
- You wish you had direct access to the instructor to ask questions when you need help.
- You know you won’t stick with a “canned” pre-recorded painting class.
- You love using color but when you try to mix the colors you see you end up with mud.
- You’re tired of trying to learn on your own and want a formal structure in which to develop greater skill and knowledge.
- You are frustrated that you’ve hit a plateau and your paintings don’t turn out as you envision.
- You want to use color effectively to create depth and form, and to express emotion.

This is not a “cookie-cutter” approach where you make a clone of the instructor’s painting – it’s not a phrasebook. You will learn the grammar of paint which will enable you to paint whatever you want.
