Blue duck with cherries
This duck vase came from a resale shop and I’ve had it for a while. The small nest that I found when walking with my dogs just fit perfectly on the hole in his back. I love cherries and these were the last of the season so I piled the ones I hadn’t yet eaten […]
Mango on brass candlestick
Another mango. This one on a brass candlestick I purchased many years ago and which I mostly use only when the electricity goes out!
Mango on blue chinese vase
This mango sits in a more classical position atop a blue Chinese candle vase. It’s still a yummy subject even in its more serious formality! Contact me for purchase at jean @ jeanwilkey.com
Mango on a green bottle
I recall when finding a mango in the grocery store was strange and exotic, not the common experience it is today. I love using complementary color pairs in my work like the greens and reds in this one. This mango is perched on the mouth of a green bottle I found in the desert when […]
Mango and pomegranate on a blue bowl
The pomegranate and mango in this painting are sitting companionably with each other. The one atop an overturned small blue ceramic bowl I had in the studio. The pomegranate is just past its prime and they both look rather serious and formal but the colors are so inviting.
Mango on Americana crystal cup
Mangos are the yummiest fruit. There was a huge 30-foot mango tree in my backyard when I lived in Honduras. That’s when I discovered I was allergic to green mangos. Thankfully I can eat all the ripe ones I want. Yummm. This one sits atop an Americana crystal cup from my mother-in-law’s Sunday crystal.
Mango on striped cup
The beautiful reds and yellows of a mango perched on a simple striped cup with its reflection. Mangos are one of my favorite things to paint because of the beautiful colors and one of my favorite fruits because of the luscious flavors.
Mango on dominos
This is another in the ‘stacked’ series of works in which objects are stacked on unlikely objects. In this case they are wooden dominos. Dominos come in all sorts of materials including a kind of synthetic ivory. It was one of the games I remember playing with my grandfather. He was the first one to […]
Kiwi on cork
Kiwis have such a wonderful taste and such a great moist-looking interior. This is one of my “stacked fruit” series. Stacking objects in the composition gives some, like this one, an almost figurative quality. This kiwi sits atop a random cork I found in my studio. Oil on cradled wood panel, 4 x 4 inches. […]
Pear on brass candlestick
This is a painting I did a while ago and today I repainted it. It’s not significantly different but I deepened and grayed some colors and darkened the background and I like it much better now. It’s part of my “stacked fruit” series. I love painting pears because they have such wonderful skin tones. They’re […]
